Serology is the study of blood serum to detect antibodies or antigens, which helps in diagnosing infections, monitoring immunity, and identifying past exposure to pathogens. In our hospital, the serology department performs tests that are critical for understanding a patient's immune system response. These tests can identify antibodies produced after an infection, indicating past exposure to viruses or bacteria, such as HIV, hepatitis, or COVID-19. Additionally, serology is used to assess vaccine effectiveness by measuring the body’s immune response. We also use serological testing to monitor autoimmune diseases and detect conditions where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues. By providing insights into immune health, our serology services guide both the treatment of existing conditions and prevention strategies for potential future infections.
